Here’s a handy guide to explain how your favorite aesthetic treatments may feel.

## Botox
It might surprise you to find out that Botox has the lowest discomfort rating! It’s the least painful aesthetic treatment and offers some pretty incredible results. Botox injections take just a few seconds. You may notice some discomfort, but only at the injection site. Side effects may include some swelling or mild bruising that goes away on its own in several hours or days.

## Dermal Fillers
Fillers are another injectable, and they’re used to smooth away wrinkles, add volume, or plump the lips. Fillers may be a bit more uncomfortable than Botox. This is usually because fillers are injected into very sensitive areas like around the lips. We often apply a topical numbing cream to minimize discomfort. Just like Botox, fillers can cause some mild swelling or bruising at the injection site. 

## Microneedling
Next up is microneedling. This treatment can be moderately uncomfortable. Unlike injectables that only take a few moments, microneedling takes several minutes. Tiny needles create micro-injuries on the surface of your skin, triggering your body’s natural healing process. During treatment, you’ll feel a poking sensation, similar to a pinprick. You may also notice a feeling of heat as the SkinPen moves across your face. Some areas may hurt more than others. For example, around your nose, on your forehead, and at your hairline, you may notice more discomfort. To minimize discomfort, we apply a topical anesthetic before treatment.

## Chemical Peels
Going up the pain scale we find chemical peels. Chemical peels deeply exfoliate the skin on the entire face, stripping away dead skin cells to reveal more youthful skin. There are several types of peels, including light, medium, and deep. Light peels are mildly uncomfortable, while deep peels can cause more discomfort, including tingling or itching. In the first week after treatment, your skin may be extra sensitive, and it may feel like a moderate sunburn. For medium or deep peels, we apply a local anesthetic cream to numb the face and give you a more comfortable treatment experience.
