Is it possible to have a bad Botox reaction? Botox is a safe treatment option that has FDA approval for a number of cosmetic and medical treatments. Most people experience no side effects or very mild side effects. In rare cases, it’s possible to have a bad Botox reaction. Here’s what you can do about it
## Mild Pain and Swelling
Bad Botox reactions usually happen at the injection site. You may experience some pain, swelling, or bruising at the injection site. Swelling will usually go down within a couple of hours, and any bruising will disappear in a day or two. 

If you have pain or swelling, keep your head elevated after Botox. We recommend that you don’t lie down for 3 or 4 hours after your treatment. Other ways to reduce swelling or bruising include:
Avoid drinking alcohol one day before and one day after injections
Avoid taking blood thinners, if safe to do so
Avoid strenuous activity for 24 hours
## Headache Pain
Some people report experiencing headache pain after a Botox injection. This is more common after your first Botox treatment, and far less common in later Botox injections. It could be caused by your muscles working hard to try to move, even as Botox settles into the muscles and causes them to relax. The headache should clear within a few hours. If you have a headache, you can:
Take an over-the-counter pain reliever
Drink plenty of fluids
Rest 
## Flu-Like Symptoms
A small number of people may develop mild flu-like symptoms after Botox injections. You should treat this as any flu and follow your regular steps to recovery. This could include:
Resting as much as possible
Drinking plenty of fluids
Eating nutritious foods
Relaxing with a steamy bash
## Dry Mouth
In some cases, Botox can make your mouth feel dry after the injections. Your reaction could include feeling like your mouth is sticky, that your saliva feels thick, or that your throat feels a bit sore. If you have a dry mouth after a Botox injection, try:
Drinking small sips of water every few minutes
Sucking on a candy to promote saliva production
Chewing gum
Breathing through your nose as much as possible
## Nausea
In rare cases, Botox can cause some nausea or an upset stomach. This is usually mild and lasts a few days. Nausea can be uncomfortable, but there are a few things you can do about it. If you feel nauseous:
Drink soothing teas to calm your stomach
Eat bland foods without spices
Eat more fiber
Do some light exercise
Soak in a warm bath
